Limassol Agora a place for all tastes

Situated in the Old Town is the most impressive example of a closed market in Cyprus. It’s a stone-built construction with characteristic arched gateways and spaces for shops covering an area of 3,000 square meters. Designed and built in 1917 by renowned architect Zacharias Vondas, the Old Town agora has been the centre of city life for decades – a vibrant conglomeration of merchants, shopkeepers, and locals who flocked here to purchase fresh fish, meat, and produce. After the 70s, rapid development of the area marked a decline in the market’s popularity, but in time also led to its current resurrection and renewal – an outcome that is inextricably linked to the greatness of its tradition.
This jewel of Limassol, recently described as “The Best Market in Southeast Europe,” accommodates shops, restaurants, cafés, bars, a modern playground, and other recreational venues for families. Cypriot culture is on full display in this unique space, represented by a multitude of shops featuring traditional, local products and examples of folk art.
Of special note, Limassol Agora has fully complied with the safety protocols implemented by the Ministry of Health to ensure public safety, a top priority. Such measures include social distancing, the use of masks, disinfectants, temperature monitoring, and a strict limit on the number of visitors entering the premises at any given time.
